#171561 - Maybe this is an opportunity!
Responding to: Grant Beattie's previous message
If you can't find a Stamp-comparable, perhaps it's time someone built one.

If there's really a demand, you should have no trouble recovering your investment. The "real" problem is finding a "generic" 805x that satisfies most people's requirements.

To me, that would mean avioding "special" features, e.g. analog data converters, specialized interfaces, etc, while not designing in features that would rule out their use. My watchword for such a project would be "less is more" as the fewer limitations you design in, in the form of specialized features, the more flexibility there will be in such a product.

For me, that would require compatibility with the Maxim/Dallas DS89C4x0, and a 33 MHz oscillator. As it happens, using a 33 MHz oscillator works fine with the DS89C4x0 as would an 11 MHz oscillator, albeit with a 3x higher baud rate. The same programs work with the DS89C4x0 as with the "standard" 805x, but with 57.6 kBaud rather than 19.2 kBaud.

Many major variants are available in similar pinout TQFP packages, so an MCU-free board might be a good product. It would be unwise, however, to attach a device to pins that would otherwise be useful for, say, IIC, or SPI, if the serial port pins aren't what's used.

Anyway ... it's your baby to explore.
